2015
The ETH coin was launched on the market in August 2015. At the time, its price was around one euro.
2017
At the end of 2016, developers launched the Tangerine Whistle hard fork, which propelled the ETH price. At the end of 2017, the Ethereum price exceeded €550.
2018
The Ethereum price would go on to reach a record high of €1,146 on January 14, 2018, before dropping sharply back below €100 at the end of the year. It was also in 2018 that the mark of 100 million ETH coins created was surpassed.
2020
The year 2020 begins with the implementation of the Muir Glacier upgrade to block 9,200,000. After stagnating in 2019, the ETH price rises again from September, coinciding with the crypto bull run during COVID. Ethereum’s price rises from €310 on September 21 to €610 on December 31.
2021
2021 is the year of the Ethereum price explosion. ETH reached its first record on May 13, with a price of €3,170, before going even higher on November 16, with a price of €4,521. To date, this is the all-time high (ATH) for Ethereum. The year 2021 also saw the roll-out of updates such as Berlin (April), hard fork London (August), Altair on chain beacon (October 27) and Arrow Glacier (December 9).
2022
The year 2022 was a historic one for Ethereum, and will forever be remembered as the year that saw the deployment of The Merge, i.e. the change in consensus mode. On September 15, 2022, Ethereum abandoned Proof-Of-Work (POW) to adopt a more virtuous blockchain model, Proof-Of-Stake (POS).
This change reduces environmental impact by 99%.
2023
After a complicated 2022, Ethereum’s value is back on track, approaching €1,900 in mid-April. On the development front, 2023 saw the launch of the Shapella update, enabling investors to withdraw their ETH staking coins.
2024
Well launched at the end of 2023 with the demand for spot ETFs, the Ethereum price continues its momentum into 2024. In May, the Ethereum price rises sharply, boosted by rumors of the forthcoming approval of spot ETFs. The ETH price rises from €2,840 on May 20 to €3,500 on May 22.
On December 17, 2024, the Ethereum price is €3758.42.
2025
In 2025, Ethereum reached major milestones with the roll-out of the Pectra update in March. This is designed to improve efficiency and user experience. This development has boosted investor interest, notably with the approval of spot Ethereum ETFs in the United States, facilitating market access for a wider audience. As a result, the ETH price reached $3,064.06 on January 28, 2025.
Analysts predict a continuation of this upward trend, with some anticipating a price of $12,000 by the end of the year.
